Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this government cleaner vacancy, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 certificate

  • Minimum of two (2) years working experience as a Cleaner in a health facility or healthcare environment

Required Competencies and Knowledge

Successful candidates must demonstrate:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to read and write clearly

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

  • Understanding of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)

  • Knowledge of Waste Management procedures

  • Awareness of Batho Pele Principles

  • Understanding of Patient Rights

  • Knowledge of the OHS Act

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Ability to work independently and in a team

Experience within hospitals, clinics, or medical facilities will be considered an advantage.


Key Responsibilities

The appointed Cleaner will be responsible for maintaining hygiene and safety standards within the health facility.

Duties include:

  • Cleaning designated areas including floors, windows, walls, basins, mirrors, kitchens, urinals, and bathrooms

  • Dusting, polishing, scrubbing, stripping, and disinfecting clinical and non-clinical areas

  • Ensuring hygienic conditions are maintained throughout the institution

  • Preventing cross-contamination in clinical environments

  • Removing spillages immediately to prevent falls and injuries

  • Using correct cleaning chemicals in appropriate dilution according to Infection Prevention and Control guidelines

  • Providing routine general cleaning services in compliance with the Ideal Hospital Framework

  • Collecting and separating waste according to categories

  • Maintaining and cleaning cleaning equipment

  • Reporting faulty equipment or incidents within allocated areas

This role is essential in maintaining hospital infection control standards and patient safety.
