EXECUTIVE MANAGER: ADVANCED MATERIALS DIVISION

REF: EM/2022/ EMAMD

ADVANCED MATERIALS DIVISION

OBJECTIVE:

The Executive Manager is responsible for ensuring that AMD is managed in a way that delivers all the government imperatives with regard to beneficiation of our metal resources. Advanced Materials Division is the custodian of all beneficiation of all the research and development work aimed at the beneficiation under the Mintek strategy.

KEY PERFOMANCE INDICATORS:

LEADERSHIP

  • Ethical leadership
  • Stakeholder relations management to ensure that cooperation is obtained in fulfilling the Division’s mandate.
  • Alignment with overall strategy and that of the external players e.g. the Department of Science and Innovation.

STRATEGY

  • Ensure that all the activities undertaken by Advanced Materials Division support the beneficiation aspect of the overall Mintek strategy.

PLANNING

  • Ensure that the necessary resources are allocated to all the activities required in order to give effect to the strategy.
  • Ensure that the competent talent required in the department is retained through clear career paths.
  • Contribute to the refinement and development of the Mintek strategy and plans.

MARKETING

  • Ensure that there is a divisional marketing plan in place, which identifies the market requirements and match these to technologies developed in the division
  • Ensure publications in peer-reviewed journals and participation in conferences, symposia to market the division’s technologies and skills.
  • Maintain national and international collaboration with research networks
  • Seek out opportunities to commercialize research outcomes

  • Drive the Division’s financial sustainability through effective operations

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

  • Develop and maintain sound relationships with all stakeholders in order to keep relevance in the global skim of things. Reporting on all RDI projects in the Cluster from own management information.
  • Keep employees engaged by maintaining an environment in which they thrive and succeed

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure that all the work produced by AMD meets the highest standards possible given the resources that the department‘s disposal.
  • Ensure that the department produces the quality of work that generates revenue in order to meet its salary obligations.
  • Ensure that the work produced through research and development has the potential for commercialisation

QUALIFICATION AND JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ideal: PhD in relevant field of science related to the discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering or Material Science.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in Materials Science of which 5 years must be in a specific area management
  • Experience in financial, HR, business processes, marketing, operations and business development position
  • Experience in business engagements and commercialization activities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, Excellent numerical and quantitative skills, Good management and leadership skills, Self-driven, People skills, Strategic thinking, Ability to multi task, Ability to get things done, and Ability to lead by example

SALARY PACKAGE: NEGOTIABLE            CLOSING DATE: 04 APRIL 2022
