SASSA R350 Grant: Apply On These Channels.

Applications for the new cycle of SASSA’s R350 grant will open on Friday. Keep reading to find out which platform you can use to apply for the grant.

Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu said all applications for the grant will be treated as new applications. This means all beneficiaries of the previous R350 grant cycles will need to reapply. 

This comes as SASSA aims to crack down on fraud by verifying the eligibility of all applicants.

How Applications For The New R350 Grant Will Work

Applications for the new R350 grant must be done electronically using only one of the following channels:

1. SASSA SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za

2. Whatsapp line on 082 046 8553

– Include your name, surname and ID number in the Whatsapp message. You will then receive a message which will detail the next steps you need to follow.

3. Send an SMS by dialing *134*7737#

Applicants will need to meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the grant: 

  • South african citizen
  • Permanent resident or refugee registered on home affairs database
  • Persons who are holders of the special permits under the special angolan dispensation, Lesotho exemption permit dispensation, Zimbabwe exemption permit dispensation 
  • Asylum seekers whose section 22 visas or permits are valid or were valid on the 15th of March 2020
  • Currently residing within the borders of the Republic of South Africa.
  • Above the age of 18, below the age of 60.
  • Unemployed.
  • Not receiving any social grant in respect of himself or herself.
  • Not receiving an employment insurance benefit and does not qualify to receive an employment insurance benefit.
  • Not receiving a stipend from NSFAS and other financial aid. 
  • Not receiving any other government Covid-19 response support.
  • Not a resident in a government funded/subsidised institution.
  • Caregivers who are not receiving any grant on their own behalf will also be eligible to apply for the SRD grant.

SASSA has urged all applicants to only apply once and on one channel in order to avoid repeated applications. Banking details will also need to be correct and up to date, as SASSA aims to pay the grant into a bank account under the name of the applicant. 

“It is important for applicants to note that the bank account or the cellular phone number provided for payment MUST be registered in the name of the approved applicant to ensure that the payment goes to the correct recipients. Applicants are requested to provide information on a bank account through which they can be paid, so that we can reduce the long queues at the post office branches” explained SASSA.
